Mr. David Larkins

Mr. Larkins is in his 6th year teaching junior high band, and 4th year as a classroom teacher in the Gilbert Public School District. Before becoming a full-time educator, Mr. Larkins worked for many band programs in the Phoenix area, focusing on the Gilbert school district. With an expertise in the marching arts, he began working with various marching bands and drumlines in the valley while he attended college at Mesa Community College and Arizona State University.

While he attended college, Mr. Larkins expanded his performance career by becoming a performer with the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps in 2014 and 2015, which also took him on an International Tour in Taiwan in December of 2015. He also performed with the Phoenix Suns Drumline in 2015 and 2016. Along with this performance experience, Mr. Larkins continued to get as much experience teaching the marching arts and added many programs to his resume including:

Williams Field HS, Gilbert HS, Corona Del Sol HS, Queen Creek HS, Horizon HS, Verrado HS, Dobson HS, Apache Junction HS, Casteel HS, Desert Mountain HS, and Desert Ridge HS

Mr. Larkins graduated with his Bachelors degree in Music Education from ASU in 2019 and began teaching immediately after. He taught band and general music at Sevilla West Elementary School until the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the schools. Unfortunately, the band program was shut down and Mr. Larkins had to quickly reconstruct a curriculum for a new class to be offered digitally, Digital Music Composition.

During the 2021-2022 school year, Mr. Larkins was hired on as Director of Bands at Desert Ridge Junior High School. Since then, the band has grown from 80 students to over 120 students.

Mr. Larkins is passionate about teaching music to young students not only to become talented musicians, but to also become great human beings who understand self-discipline, time-management, personal accountability, and most importantly respect for others.
